That isn't a reason not to do it. A card you didn't choose is a good way to be asked a question you'd have steered around on your own — which is why every card here ends in a question rather than a forecast. What it can't do is tell you what's going to happen, and any site that says otherwise is selling you something.
A real reading is a different thing entirely. It's built from your actual birth chart, or from a question you actually asked, and a person sits with it and writes it. That takes me a few hours and it costs money. This takes you one second and it's free. Both are honest about which one they are.
Why these twenty-two
The astrology on each card is real.
Every Major Arcana card has had a fixed astrological ruler since the Golden Dawn set them out over a century ago. The Star is Aquarius. The Tower is Mars. The Empress is Venus. Nothing here was invented to look good: all twelve signs appear exactly once across the deck, and the remaining ten cards carry the planets.
So when you pull The Hermit, you're pulling Virgo, and the card means what Virgo means — going away from the noise to hear yourself think. That consistency is the whole reason the deck is worth anything.
